Pact Of Crun Clach

Background

The Pact of Crun Clach was negotiated in 1189 and ratified in the Tribunal of the same year.

Text of The Pact of Crun Clach

I will not aid or hinder the King of Scotland in his endeavours, either in war or during peace-time. Doing so will violate my oath to the Order of Hermes that I shall not interfere with the affairs of mundanes lest I bring ruin on my sodales.

I will not aid or hinder invaders into lands held by the King of Scotland. Doing so will violate my oath to the Order of Hermes that I shall not interfere with the affairs of mundanes lest I bring ruin on my sodales.

I understand that should I choose to take part in raids against the resources of another covenant, I do so by my own volition; and should I fail to clearly identify myself as a magus, I have no recourse to the protection offered by the Code of Hermes if I suffer harm.

I will not direct magics against a group of warriors from another covenant, lest I cause harm to my solades in the Order of Hermes. Doing so may violate my oath to the Order of Hermes that I shall not slay nor attempt to slay any member of the Order of Hermes.

Should I be captured in battle I recognise the right of my captors to demand ransom from my covenant for my return; likewise I swear to return ransomed sodales immediately upon payment of the agreed price.

I will not use mundane warriors in the execution of a justly executed and formally declared Wizard’s War.

I understand that the resources of a covenant do not contribute to the magical power of a member of the Order of Hermes. Should I lose such resources to another magus, I have no recourse within the Peripheral Code of the Loch Leglean Tribunal.

I understand that Sanctum Law is not affected by this Pact. The rights of a magus within his Sanctum are made inviolable by the Code of Hermes.

Items taken from a covenant as spoils of war henceforth belong to the taker. Magi may make reasonable requests for the return of certain individual items, and if complaint is found, I agree that the Loch Leglean Tribunal is the correct forum for redress.
